Celebrate Real Lovecats

When lovecats show bizlove to their bizpartners, they bring compassion and generosity into the otherwise drab corporate world. In Love is the Killer App, Tim shares some Lovecat Tales about real people and invites people to send him stories by mail and e-mail.

In this section, we're going to celebrate some real lovecats and share their stories. We're looking for tales that showcase people who live the Lovecat Way.

At the bottom of this page, we've placed a form that you can complete and send to us. We'll post the best Lovecat Tales here for people to read and enjoy.

Here's a sample lovecat tale that we've received.

A Lovecat Tale

I think my father, Dan, was a lovecat even before the term existed. Through his actions he had a great tendency to create small ripples of compassion in his wake.

My father worked as VP of a paint company in Kansas City.  One of his assistants, Charlie, had worked for the company for many years.  Charlie began as a store manager and then rose up through the company.

Charlie would work long hours whenever needed, and he’d help with any project—without worrying if it fit into his job description.  Charlie made sure things got done and took care of people.  My dad noticed Charlie because of his dedicated, hard work, but they soon built a friendship.

In the 1980’s, Charlie had a serious heart attack.  He spent a lot of time in the hospital, and then the doctors ordered mandatory bed-rest at home.  Charlie soon ran out of sick leave, vacation time, and comp time.  He was about to lose both his paycheck and his job.  My father arranged a meeting with the company’s CEO and explained the situation.  He emphasized Charlie’s dedication to the company.

When my father told me this story, he would imitate the company’s CEO.  He’d wistfully look to the side, as though he were in deep thought, and then he’d say, “Dan, it looks like Charlie’s taken care of us for a long time.  So, it looks like it’s time for us to take care of him.”  After that meeting, Charlie continued to receive a paycheck and his vacation time magically reappeared.  After three months of bedrest, Charlie returned to work and continued his lovecat ways within the company.
